Western Harbour Tunnel and Warringah Freeway Upgrade

A 6.5km tunnel that will connect the Warringah Freeway at North Sydney with the Rozelle Interchange, the M4 and the M5 via a tunnel beneath Sydney Harbour. It will be a much needed third Sydney Harbour crossing and offer a western bypass of the Sydney CBD.

The Warringah Freeway Upgrade would involve renovation of 4km of the freeway to provide connections for the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link and significantly the improve the efficiency one of Australia’s busiest and most complex road corridors.

Sydney Gateway

Will connect the WestConnex Motorway at St Peters Interchange to Sydney Airport and make freight trips to Port Botany easier, safer and faster. The freight rail line between Port Botany and Mascot will also be duplicated which will reduce the proportion of trucks on local roads.

M6 Stage 1

A 4 km tunnel connecting the New M5 Motorway at Arncliffe to President Ave in Kogarah. It will be designed with provision for a future extension southm and be underground to minimise disruption to the community and property impacts. F6 will provide more direct access from southern Sydney to the wider Sydney motorway network.

Benefits

  • Bypass up to 23 sets of traffic lights on the Princes Highway between St Peters and Kogarah
  • Less stop-start, more reliable travel times
  • Travel times savings between southern Sydney and the Sydney CBD
  • Reduce the number of heavy vehicles on surface roads by over 2,000 per day
  • Improve the amenity of the foreshore precinct at Brighton-Le-Sands and the Grand Parade through a reduction in traffic

WestConnex – M4-M5 Link

Will connect the M4 East at Haberfield to the New M5 at St Peters via Rozelle. The project includes an interchange at Rozelle with provision for a future connection to the Western Harbour Tunnel. The project also includes an underground tunnel from the Rozelle Interchange to the Iron Cove Bridge.

WestConnex – New M5

Will provide twin underground motorway tunnels, 9 kilometres long, from Kingsgrove to a new St Peters Interchange. This new interchange will provide motorists with connections to Alexandria and Mascot and the future Sydney Gateway to the airport and port.


Project stage:

Construction: Roads and Maritime Services administers the contract and design changes and manages all stakeholder engagement regarding construction impacts. A Construction Environmental Management Plan is assessed and approved by the Department of Planning and Environment.

WestConnex New M4 tunnels (complete)

Will extend the M4 in twin underground tunnels between Homebush and Haberfield via Concord. It will connect to the Widened M4 in the west and to City West Link and Parramatta Road in at Haberfield in the east.

WestConnex New M4 widening (complete)

Widening the existing M4 Motorway from Parramatta to Homebush from three to four lanes in each direction.


Project stage:

Open to traffic: Roads and Maritime will manage project finalisation and hand over assets and maintenance responsibility before actually closing the project.

NorthConnex

A 9km twin tunnel linking the M1 Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga to the Hills M2 Motorway at West Pennant Hills. It includes interchanges to the north and south to accommodate connections at either end of the project. Once complete it will link Sydney's north to the Orbital network and form part of the National Highway route.
