Long working hours and a lack of diversity continues to impede the construction industry's ability to attract and retain workers. With an estimated shortage of 229,000 skilled workers, we need to do more now than ever to shift the dial on our sector’s culture. This page outlines the ways we are working with industry to break down barriers and improve working conditions on our sites to make our industry a sector of choice for everyone.
We are partnering with the Culture in Construction Taskforce to trial their draft Culture Standard for the Construction Industry on the Mulgoa Road Stage 1 project out in Western Sydney.
In partnership with the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce we ran pre-qualification workshops to support more Aboriginal businesses to enter the supply chain.
The Aboriginal Participation Strategy supports our Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to influence Aboriginal community economic development and create more opportunities for involvement in our projects.
We caught up with Gabrielle Trainor AO, Chair of the Culture in Construction Taskforce, to find out what the Culture Standard is and what we are looking to test by piloting it with industry on the Mulgoa Road Stage 1 project.
