In 2017, 34 people lost their lives on regional roads as a result of head-on collisions. We’re widening the centreline to create a larger gap between opposing directions of traffic and improve safety for people travelling on regional roads. This extra space gives you more time to react if another vehicle starts to drift across the middle of the road and potentially into your lane, helping to prevent a head-on crash.
