Rumble strips

Rumble strips are partially raised lines used to mark traffic lanes on the road. They make a ‘rumbling’ sound and cause a vehicle to vibrate when driven over, alerting drivers if they are moving out of their lane. We’re installing over 10,000km worth of rumble strips to both centrelines and outer lane markings on some of Victoria’s most high-risk roads, to prevent people veering out of their lane, causing head-on and run-off-road collisions. Rumble strips can also be installed horizontally across the road, to warn drivers that they are approaching an intersection or a high-risk point.
