About Sydney Gateway

Sydney Gateway is a proposed new toll-free connection making journeys from west and south-west Sydney to Sydney Airport, the M5, Eastern Distributor and Port Botany - easier, faster and safer.

What is Sydney Gateway?

The NSW Government’s vision for Sydney is one of an integrated road and public transport network that gives you the freedom to choose how and when you get around, no matter where you live and work.

One area of focus is completing the missing links in the Sydney motorway network to improve traffic flow. This high capacity network is vital for supporting the growth of our communities, places and economy. This will ensure people and goods can move around our city and beyond, safely and reliably.

Sydney Gateway is key to this vision and will greatly improve the way we travel to Sydney Airport and Port Botany. It will deliver major new toll-free connections from the Sydney motorway network to the International and Domestic terminals.

Sydney Gateway will strengthen Sydney’s position as a global city, by expanding and improving the existing road and freight rail networks. Importantly, Sydney Gateway will provide a new route for around 10,000 trucks a day. This will divert trucks from local streets in Mascot by providing an alternative route, reduce travel times and congestion, and return local streets to the community.

Why we need Sydney Gateway

Sydney Airport and Port Botany generate over $10 billion in economic activity and handle close to $100 billion freight each year. It is Sydney’s second largest employment precinct, after the central business district.

Key arterial roads including Qantas Drive, Airport Drive, Eastern Distributor and O’Riordan Drive are operating at capacity in peak times. The NSW Government is continuing to invest in transport and infrastructure to address economic activity and unprecedented population growth.

Sydney Gateway will provide toll-free connections to Sydney Airport’s Domestic and International terminals and will be our gateway to the city for residents and visitors.
